About us

Opened on Valentine's Day 2005, Café Zito is the creation of Chef Baptist Knaven and his wife Jennifer Kelley. Baptist and Jennifer spent two years renovating this historic location and transformed it into the restaurant it is today.
The name Zito comes from the Greek word meaning to seek, search, or query. Historically, Zito is also the common name of the deity Demeter in ancient Central Italy. And as a Greek earth goddess, Demeter brings forth the fruits of the earth.
“For us, the name Zito has a two-fold meaning. Our goal has always been to create the restaurant we were searching for, to create the restaurant that we could enjoy time and again. Zito also represents our never ending search to improve what we offer our patrons: to better our food, our service and ourselves. This dynamic resonates throughout our staff, which is a part of our family. We are convinced that the best-tasting food is always fresh, harvested locally and with integrity. These principles are what dictate our menu. Searching for the best ingredients, combining them in simple yet surprising ways allows us to offer dishes full of unique flavor and richness. This is the essence of the Mediterranean cuisine and what our Zito is all about.”

Location

Café Zito is located at 105 south 11th street, Morehead City. Formerly known as The Magnolia Café until it's closing in 2001, it was a very popular spot with both tourists and locals. Located just south of Arendell Street, The History Place is directly across Arendell Street, and the City Park of Morehead is directly behind the restaurant. It is a short walk from the downtown waterfront and many of the businesses on Arendell Street. The restaurant seats 40 people inside, and an additional 16 on the beautiful porch. Parking is possible along 11th Street in front of the restaurant and in the Public Parking located between 10th and 11th on south Arendell Street.
