As many of you know, Steven Zeswitz has been visiting us for a couple of weeks. He has returned to the Big Apple again to continue his study at the International Center of Photography, but has left us with six beautiful photographs that are hanging now in the restaurant.

We also had a wonderful surprise visit from our dear friend Tess Riter, photographer and SCAD-graduate. We are honored to display a body of her work: eight incredible collages of Savannah architecture.

Here is her artist statement:

“Perceive This.

Architecture is molding perfect planes with exact perspective. Well, what if one decided to play with that perfection? Does the mind trick the eye into seeing perceived perfection; does it fill in the blanks and connect the dots?

This body of work is a study of breaking up the perspective to create an unbalanced rhythm that is appealing to the viewer. The variety in angle and lighting conditions imbues a dynamism that resounds in the large-scale works. The lighting in each piece also provides a harmony in the image that is unmanipulated.

In truth I made these images because putting them together in collage form is more visually appealing than making a document of a building. I enjoy deconstructing an ordinary image and producing something original and stimulating.

Tess Riter”

Much more work and contact information is available on my website. www.tessriter.com

Come enjoy the wonderful new art from some very special friends, we look forward to seeing you!

Greg Tuomi has New Art on the Wall

One room with paintings, one with photographs. Beautiful new work that will stay through the Winter. This time Greg really outdid himself!

Happy Summer!

We are thrilled that once again, the walls of Café Zito are transformed, this time by photographer Charity Jules Valentine. Her images of flowers and other flora, larger than life on a black background, are strikingly beautiful with incredible depth and detail. Called Kismet, this collection of her work represents a special place in her heart, which makes the images even more endearing and powerful.

Charity began as a photographer with the U.S. Air Force and went on to earn her MFA in Photography at ECU. Recently her work has been on exhibit at the Kinston Community Center for the Arts and Starlight Café in Greenville. Her next show will be at the Durham Arts Council. Charity will start teaching photography at ECU in the fall.

This wonderful exhibit will be in our restaurant until the end of September.

Until last Monday, February 13th, we were delighted to have paintings on the walls of our restaurant by local painter Nichole Webb.

If you're interested in Nichole's work, we will gladly bring you in contact with her.

The first artist who exposed his work at Café Zito was Greg Tuomi, a local photographer who helped us with the renovation of the building. He took pictures of artifacts found during the construction.
